Riviera Day 7: Argostoli

We had a wonderful leisurely morning at sea this morning as we weren't due into Kefalonia until 12pm. I wandered up to the Horizons Lounge (top floor, forward-most, full-width lounge with tiny bar, medium dance floor and 100's of seats. Used for morning coffee, afternoon teas, happy hours, etc. etc.) to fill up my travel mug with Cafe Latte, then strolled the open decks to see what was what. Mornings are usually very peaceful but today was absurdly so. Only one soul inhabiting 1 of 2 hot tubs, the odd person doing their constitutional laps around the deck, and just a few having their breakfasts. It was 8am! Everyone seemed to be enjoying the break from the early morning sightseeing.

Once again, I knew that the harbor town of Argostoli wouldn't hold any attraction for Mom and I, so I had reserved a rental car so we could see a bit of the island. Quick & easy: our man was waiting for us on the dock with a sign with my name on it, I signed the contract at a cafe's table, hopped in the car and away we went!

Kefalonia is a fairly large island, located on the western side of mainland Greece, pretty much level with Athens. I had been here once before and had done the touristy things: seeing the underground lake and the famous caves but today was Beach Day!

We drove up the west side of the island, stopping roadside to take some pics like these:

Before driving down a steep twisting road to the village of Assos. Unable to find a place to park I just made my own and we strolled down to the harbor. The water was too inviting not to go in, so we had a quick dip (Mom in her underwear!)

From there we traversed the island over to Antisamos Beach for a 2nd swim, before winding our way back to the port.

A perfectly relaxing day!

Tomorrow: Taoromina, Sicily
