Rain rain go away....

My plane took off from Palm Springs yesterday at noon - right into a rainstorm over Joshua Tree National Park. The pilot came on and said to hang on for a bit as it will be bumpy for the next 5 minutes, then "oh, and the rain just started in Vancouver". And it rained today too. Hard, frequently. The most rain in weeks and weeks. I'd forgotten about the rain in Vancouver. Well, not literally. Growing up here the rain is your constant companion. Day in and day out, month upon month it's wet. It gets into your psyche and soul, becomes part of you. But I've tried to avoid cold, damp weather my whole adult life and today wasn't quite the Proustian moment I'd been waiting for.

was flying back 'home' for the night to pick up Mum, as she and I have a fairly last-minute trip planned to visit England and Russia. 6 days in Kent, 3 in Moscow, and 4 in St. Petersburg.  I think it's forecast to rain almost every day. So we packed our wellies, our rain jackets, rain pants and umbrellas and I'll dig deep and pull out that ole Vancouver spirit that if you don't do it in the rain, you won't be doing it at all!
